My first published book was Easter Fires, a story about German families founding  Fredericksburg, Texas, in 1846.
I discovered a book with stories of what happened to different ones and how they made a treaty with the Comanche.
That treaty was never broken -- a copy of it hangs in the Texas State Archives building. My story has a made-up
family, but everything in the book really happened to somebody.

Texas is a big state with a grand history. I'll never run out of things to write about.
